Peruse The Latest In Local Fashion & Art: May 13, 6-9

Please join me at Gallery 360 where owner Merry Beck seamlessly combines art, design, fashion and craft into one inspiring retail event.  I was thrilled when I met Merry and heard about her vision for the trunk show. It is the perfect venue where my art can be a backdrop with fashion. I have three pieces in this show and hope to be part of their 10 year anniversary event next month.  I would love to see you.

Gallery 360 is a contemporary retail gallery located at the corner of 50th and Xerxes in Southwest Minneapolis. Opened by owner Merry Beck in the summer of 2000, this neighborhood gallery is situated amongst an eclectic array of independently owned boutique shops. With exhibitions rotating every six weeks, Merry Beck and her staff are able to recreate the space with an ever-changing collection of local and national talent. The gallery’s tag line “art in every degree”, sums up the extensive variety of fine art and handmade product available within. While representing traditional art media, such as painting, photography, and sculpture Gallery 360 is also known to take an offbeat approach by offering contemporary art jewelry, locally designed fashions, and multi media window installations.

I hope everyone is submitting their work and will be part of the state’s largest art exhibition! Celebrate opening night of “Foot in the Door 4,” the wildly popular exhibition held every 10 years. Rub elbows with hundreds of Minnesota artists and view thousands of submissions in this wonderful art event. Wear your most fab footwear for their “Best Shoes in the Door” Flickr gallery. Below is my submission that you’ll have to see in person to appreciate the finer layers and detail. The outer wire shell is a three dimensional skirt cut from an early 1900’s metal cast.  I know you are probably wondering why I would have such an item but I bought it a long time ago on Ebay–I liked the character of the material.  It’s laced together with a very delicate hand-stenciled dyed ribbon.  Behind the wire skirt you can read bits and pieces of a poem by my friend Zac Stafford. Lot’s to see and discover up close!

No art will be for sale at the exhibition. I hope to see all of you there.

Retailer That Makes Art Accessible: Gallery 360

CIMG1796 I have driven by Gallery 360 at 3011 West 50th in the SW Minneapolis, Linden Hills neighbor too many times to count.  Several friends have recommended it and last year I received a bracelet  that I love and wear all of the time.  Today I decided to stop and see what everyone was talking about.  As a first impression, I loved the eclectic mix of fine art and hand crafts made by skilled artisans, mostly local. Gallery 360 owner Merry Beck hand-picks paintings, sculptures, and mixed media, as well as ceramics, clothing, jewelry, and gifts for this contemporary gallery and retail shop.

I was particularly drawn to Natasha D’Schommer’s still life photography and Jennifer Davis’s narrative mixed media work. It was fun to browse a great selection of fresh and modern designs from local and national artisans including jewelry maker, Emily Johnson featured in my November 2009 blog posts.  The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, I highly recommend stopping by this delightful shop.

Original Art Under $100

Here is a good example of  “the parts are greater than the sum.”  To stay fresh, I continually try new things with materials, techniques and color ( yes, I know it’s hard to imagine) hoping it will lead to new discoveries.  My best results happen when I approach each project with a beginners mind and without any set outcome.  Usually I end up with pieces and parts or fragments that I really like.  So I decided to pull some of the best fragments  cut from larger pieces and sell them at very affordable prices.   They are all unframed using mixed media textiles, paper and some text.  Please email me directly if you are interested.
